Recent times have seen an overhaul of the grant programs that were previously available to SMEs operating in the defence industry. Grants programs such as the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority (SICP) Grant, the Defence Global Competitiveness Grant (DGCG) and the Skilling Australia's Defence Industry (SADI) Grant have now been consolidated into the one program, the Defence Industry Development Grants Program.

 

The Defence Industry Development Grants (DIDG) Program 

 

The Defence Industry Development Grants Program, announced as part of the Defence Industry Development Strategy, funds small to medium enterprises to build Australia’s sovereign capability, global competitiveness, technical superiority and national security.  

 

There are four streams within the program, including: 

 

Sovereign Industrial Priorities – Up to $1,000,000 to fund the purchase of manufacturing plant and equipment which is used to deliver on programs that align with the Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities (SDIPs).

 

Export – Up to $250,000 to fund the purchase of manufacturing plant and equipment which is used to develop and/or deliver defence export opportunities.

 

Security – Up to $100,000 to fund improvements to a company’s governance, personnel, physical and/or cyber security posture.

 

Skilling – Up to $250,000 to fund technical, trade and professional skillsets that enhance the capability and capacity of the defence industry workforce.
